Bellingham 2019 Harvest Update

Harvest 2019 is in full swing at Bellingham, and winemaker Richard Duckitt is pleased with the progress so far. Most of the white grape varieties have been received, with the reds now gradually making their way to the cellar. Richard is particularly excited about this year’s Sauvignon Blanc. The 2018 vintage was highly acclaimed, winning among others a coveted FNB Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc prize. This year, given the bright acidity and excellent purity of the grapes, harvested, we should be in for another outstanding Sauvignon Blanc vintage, says Richard. He is also eagerly following the development of the Pinotage this year, which is being fermented in open-top concrete tanks. “The colour and tannin on the reds are looking magnificent, so judging by the early quality precursors, we are looking at an all-round fine crop of wines this year.”
