Bellingham beefs up Pinobiltongfest with amazing trio of wines

Take the train, car or bus. A bike if you must. We don’t care how you get there, just get there if you can (with apologies to Oleta Adams). Because if there is one festival you don’t want to miss this year, it is the Pinobiltongfest on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April. As a winery that champions the synergistic relationship between wine and food, Bellingham will be there to celebrate one of South Africa’s best-loved pairings, Pinotage and biltong!

This year’s event takes place at Perdeberg Winery near Paarl, and 18 wineries will offer their Pinotage wines for tasting and sale, paired with a complementary biltong variant. Bellingham will showcase the Pinopasso, Bellingham Pinotage and Bernard Series Bush Vine Pinotage. All three wines, although diverse, pair superbly with the savoury and spicy flavours of biltong and as such will be stars of the show.

The Pinopasso is made using the Italian winemaking method Ripasso, where dried grapes or pomace are added to the fermented wine for a period of cold soaking to enhance intensity, flavour, alcohol and colour. This medium-bodied wine has vibrant red berry fruit, hint of spice and a clean freshness on the finish. It can be enjoyed chilled, making it the perfect Pinotage for summer.

The Bellingham Pinotage is juicy and eminently drinkable, showing typical varietal flavours of red berries and plums with hints of vanilla on the nose. These ripe and juicy raspberries, strawberry and black cherry flavours linger on the palate and finish, supported by well-integrated oak spice and velvety soft tannins.

The Bernard Series Bush Vine Pinotage originates from a prized 43-year-old bush vine block, where the vines grow in weathered granite soils with small yields. It is a layered, sensual rendition of South Africa’s best known indigenous grape, with liberal black cherry, ripe mulberry and raspberry confit aromas, as well as good spice oak integration on the long, succulent finish.

Tickets for the Pinobiltongfest are available now at www.plankton.mobi.  Availability for this hugely popular event is limited, so book without delay.

Bellingham is giving one lucky follower the opportunity to win a set of double tickets to attend the Pinobiltongfest on Sunday, 14 April.

To become eligible for this fantastic prize, simply tell us in the comment section on their Facebook or Instagram post which wines we will be taking to the festival.
