Richard and Mario’s favourite wines for summer – now available from our wine shop!

Bellingham winemakers Richard Duckitt and Mario Damon are looking forward to a well-deserved summer holiday to recharge before the gruelling harvest season starts in all earnest early in the New Year. These two keen home cooks have planned their festive menus and stocked up on their favourite Bellingham wines for entertaining family and friends – and you can order them too from our online wine shop here: https://shop.bellinghamwines.com/!

For Richard, a must-have wine on his festive wishlist is Bellingham. The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc. The grapes for this acclaimed wine comes from unique old bush vine vineyards around the Cape Winelands. It shows fleshy peach, passion fruit, honey melon, papaya and pineapple fruit aromas layered with whiffs of oatmeal and crushed wheat that follow through with lavish concentrated fruit flavours from the nose – powerful yet balanced on the palate with discernible, yet seamless and subtle spicy oak complexity. The riveting finish is fresh and intense with tremendous length, making it an excellent wine for enjoyment with food. Richard plans on pairing the Old Vine Chenin Blanc with his delicious Christmas roast chicken with wild mushroom and thyme stuffing.

Mario, on the other hand, is planning a feast of fresh seafood perfect for celebrating a sunny Christmas this year. It calls for enjoyment with the Bellingham Sauvignon Blanc, a 2018 FNB Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc winner, which is a Wine of Origin Cape Town and sourced from vineyards with a distinct maritime influence. This complex yet approachable wine has exotic melon, pear and citrus flavours on the nose. The palate offers a burst of citrus and tropical flavours with a crisp and clean finish. Mario, who loves to experiment with new flavour combinations in the kitchen, considers this the ultimate seafood wine. The bright acidity gives the wine a textural aspect that is exceptional when combined with any seafood dish, from fresh linefish to something richer like mussels in a white wine sauce, two unmissable dishes on his festive menu.
