The Homestead Series

Homestead Red Blend

The grapes for this wine are grown from high-quality vineyard sites around Stellenbosch and Elgin and planted on deep granite and shale soils that impart a distinct varietal character in the wine.

Each wine in the Bellingham Homestead Portfolio is sourced from its optimal South African region and is a perfect balance of considered wine-craft with creativity and generosity. Contemporary in style, our wines reflect their unique terroir, and characteristics touch of the unexpected.

The mountainous terrain and diversity of terroirs are key contributors to making this a premier viticultural area with granite and soils. The vineyards are at altitudes above 200m and open to the fersh southwesterly summer breezes originating in False Bay.

Grapes were picked in the early mornings in March. Destemmed and sorted before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with limited intervention. Fermentation lasted 7 – 12 days, followed by ageing in 300L French Oak barrels.

A melange of red and black fruit with rich red cherry, blueberry and blackcurrent spice, supported by well-judged oak that leads to a classic tobacco spiciness, dark chocolate and liquorice notes.

It pairs perfectly with grilled meats, roasted vegetables and an array of Italian inspired dishes.
